with thanks to Lynne R for supplying this information – if you have any further information about the Blomeley
family, please contact us.
John Blomeley was born 1816 in Broughton, Salford and was a farmer of 12 acres living on Hill Lane Blackley in 1861. His wife was Ann - born 1816 in Middleton, Manchester.
John and Ann had children James Born in 1848 in Blackley, Edwin born 1853 in Blackley, John born 1856 in Blackley and Ann born 1858 in Blackley.
Edwin Blomeley married Louisa Oakden in 1877 at St Peter's Church Blackley.
Louisa was from London and had been a servant to the family (a laundress). Edwin was a joiner and they lived on Hill Lane with their children Ann Amelia born 1878 and JAMES born 1879. Ann Amelia was Mary Cuffwright’s great friend (see article by Mary Cuffwright), who she always called “auntie”.
Apparently the little coat Mary was wearing in the picture in the article was made by “Auntie Blomeley”.
By 1901 Edwin was a widower and he and Ann Amelia were living on Hill Lane in the same cottage, two up from Laxey Cottage which is still there today.
By 1911 Edwin was 57 and a joiner and Ann Amelia was a living with him as a housekeeper.
Edwin died in 1918.
